Art

I argue that the mundane and under-observed deserve to be studied, leveraged and celebrated in art. In the vein of artists like Jasper Johns and Larry Rivers, my painting reflects the pleasure found in recognizable, everyday objects, things normally overlooked or not noticed at all. Through a combination of exploration, composition, and juxtaposition, I invariably find even the small and nondescript to be intricate and rich.

At the same time, my art is political. All art, I would argue, is political by nature, and the undertaking of making art itself an act of defiance, a necessary and vital reaction to the world we inhabit. My work seeks to address issues that I feel demand our attention, including class, privilege, capitalism, consumerism, power, and war. Art is the great revealer of truth. I wish to engage and provoke the viewer, to encourage dialog and debate.
